StartInstance Method

Start an instance of the specified ImageId.

Syntax

ec2.startInstance(imageId, [callback])

Callback

The 'callback' parameter specifies a function which will be called when the operation completes (or an error is encountered). If the 'callback' parameter is not specified, then the method will block and will not return until the operation completes (or an error is encountered).

The callback for this method is defined as:

function(err, data){ }

'err' is the error that occurred. If there was no error, then 'err' is 'null'.

'data' is the value returned by the method.

'err' has 2 properties which hold detailed information:

err.code
err.message

Remarks

If the Keys collection is not empty, the instance will be launched with the first key in the collection, allowing you to use that key to provide secure access to the instance. Otherwise, the instance will be inaccessible from the outside.

If the SecurityGroups collection is not empty, the instance will be launched as a member of all the security groups specified in the collection. Otherwise, the instance will be launched in the default security group of your EC2 account.

Further instance configurations can be used by setting the configuration properties KernelId, RamdiskId, UserData, and InstanceType, etc.
