CreateQueue Method

Creates a new queue.

Syntax

[VB.NET]
Public Sub CreateQueue()
[C#]
public void CreateQueue();

Remarks

This method creates a new queue with the name specified by QueueName. Before calling this method, in addition to specifying QueueName you may also add metadata to Metadata by calling AddUserMetadata.

When a queue with the specified name already exists, the Queue service checks the metadata associated with the existing queue. If the existing metadata is identical to the metadata specified on the Create Queue request, the queue will be overwritten. If the existing metadata does not match the metadata provided with the Create Queue request, the operation fails and status code 409 (Conflict) is returned.

Note: The queue name must be a valid DNS name, conforming to the following naming rules:

  1. A queue name must start with a letter or number, and may contain only letters, numbers, and the dash (-) character.
  2. The first and last letters in the queue name must be alphanumeric. The dash (-) character may not be the first or last letter. Consecutive dash characters are not permitted in the queue name; every dash character must be immediately preceded and followed by a letter or number.
  3. All letters in a queue name must be lowercase.
  4. A queue name must be from 3 through 63 characters long.
