# DPAPI Class

The DPAPI class allows you to protect and unprotect data.

## Syntax

```text
DPAPI
```

## Remarks

On Windows, the class supports the classic Microsoft Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI) or CNG DPAPI implementation. The use of [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) determines which implementation is used. Support for macOS is also available via the macOS keychain.

The classic DPAPI functionality protects data on a single system. The CNG DPAPI is designed with modern use cases involved. In many cases, especially with cloud computing, protection and unprotection may be done on different systems. With this in mind the Microsoft CNG DPAPI allows encrypting to a set of principals that can be used to unprotect the data on other systems after authenticating. On macOS, a key is saved in the Keychain which is used to protect and uprotect data.

### Protecting Data

[Protect](#protect-method-dpapi-class) protects the specified data.

On Windows, the class supports the classic Microsoft Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI) or CNG DPAPI implementation. The use of [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) determines which implementation is used. Support for macOS is also available via the macOS keychain.

When using classic DPAPI ([UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is *False*), the following optional properties are applicable:

- [DataDescription](#datadescription-property-dpapi-class)
- [Password](#password-property-dpapi-class)
- [PromptTitle](#prompttitle-property-dpapi-class)
- [PromptUser](#promptuser-property-dpapi-class)

When using CNG DPAPI ([UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is *True*), the following properties are applicable:

- [ProtectionDescriptor](#protectiondescriptor-property-dpapi-class) (required)
- [EscapeDescriptor](#EscapeDescriptor)
- [UseStreamMode](#UseStreamMode)

On macOS, the following settings are applicable:

 **Input and Output Properties**

The class will determine the source and destination of the input and output based on which properties are set.

The order in which the input properties are checked is as follows:

- [SetInputStream](#setinputstream-method-dpapi-class)
- [InputFile](#inputfile-property-dpapi-class)
- [InputMessage](#inputmessage-property-dpapi-class)

When a valid source is found, the search stops. The order in which the output properties are checked is as follows:

- [SetOutputStream](#setoutputstream-method-dpapi-class)
- [OutputFile](#outputfile-property-dpapi-class)
- [OutputMessage](#outputmessage-property-dpapi-class): The output data is written to this property if no other destination is specified.

When using streams, you may need to additionally set [CloseInputStreamAfterProcessing](#CloseInputStreamAfterProcessing) or [CloseOutputStreamAfterProcessing](#CloseOutputStreamAfterProcessing).

**Code Example (Classic DPAPI - [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is False)**

```csharp
//Protect
DPAPI dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.InputMessage = "test";
dpapi.Protect();
byte[] protectedData = dpapi.OutputMessageB;
//Unprotect
dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.InputMessageB = protectedData;
dpapi.Unprotect();
Console.WriteLine(dpapi.OutputMessage); //outputs "test"
```

**Code Example (CNG DPAPI - [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is True**)

```csharp
//Protect
DPAPI dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.UseCNG = true;
dpapi.ProtectionDescriptor = "LOCAL=user";
dpapi.InputMessage = "test";
dpapi.Protect();
byte[] protectedData = dpapi.OutputMessageB;
//Unprotect
dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.UseCNG = true;
dpapi.InputMessageB = protectedData;
dpapi.Unprotect();
This property must be specified before calling [Protect](#protect-method-dpapi-class). This property is populated after calling [Unprotect](#unprotect-method-dpapi-class).
Protection descriptors can be defined for the following types of authorization:
- A local user or machine
- An account or group in an Active Directory forest
- A set of web credentials
- A certificate in the user's certificate store
A local user or machine may be used for machines that are or are not on a domain. For instance:
- *LOCAL=user*
- *LOCAL=machine*
The use of *SID* and *SDDL* requires that the machine be part of a domain. For instance:
- *SID=S-1-5-21-4392301 AND SID=S-1-5-21-3101812*
- *SDDL=O:S-1-5-5-0-290724G:SYD:(A;;CCDC;;;S-1-5-5-0-290724)(A;;DC;;;WD)*
Certificates may also be used as a descriptor. To decrypt, the certificate with corresponding private key must be present in the user's certificate store. The public certificate can be specified as the SHA1 thumbprint (hash) of the certificate, or the base64 encoded certificate itself. For instance:
- *CERTIFICATE=HashID:28ac375635b82ca3e20a1c9422145bc93965dae7*
- *CERTIFICATE=CertBlob:MIIC7TCCAdWgAw...pgpVgYpppr*
 Note: The base64 certificate data should not include any headers, footers, or whitespace.
The use of *AND* and *OR* operators are accepted in order to encrypt data for multiple parties or establish multiple conditions for decryption.
For more details about protection descriptors and accepted formats please refer to the [Microsoft Documentation for Protection Descriptors](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/seccng/protection-descriptors)
This setting is only applicable when [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is set to *True*.
String
# UseCNG Property ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
Whether to use CNG DPAPI.
## Syntax
```text
ANSI (Cross Platform)
int GetUseCNG();int SetUseCNG(int bUseCNG);

Unicode (Windows)
BOOL GetUseCNG();INT SetUseCNG(BOOL bUseCNG);
```
## Default Value
FALSE
## Remarks
The class supports protecting data using either the classic DPAPI or CNG DPAPI implementation. When set to *True* the CNG DPAPI implementation is used. When set to *False* (default) the classic DPAPI implementation is used.
This setting is not applicable on macOS.
## Data Type
Boolean
# UseHex Property ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
Whether input or output is hex encoded.
## Syntax
```text
ANSI (Cross Platform)
int GetUseHex();int SetUseHex(int bUseHex);

Unicode (Windows)
BOOL GetUseHex();INT SetUseHex(BOOL bUseHex);
```
## Default Value
FALSE
## Remarks
This property specifies whether the encrypted data is hex encoded.
If set to True, when [Protect](#protect-method-dpapi-class) is called the class will perform the encryption as normal and then hex encode the output. [OutputMessage](#outputmessage-property-dpapi-class) or [OutputFile](#outputfile-property-dpapi-class) will hold hex encoded data.
If set to True, when [Unprotect](#unprotect-method-dpapi-class) is called the class will expect [InputMessage](#inputmessage-property-dpapi-class) or [InputFile](#inputfile-property-dpapi-class) to hold hex encoded data. The class will then hex decode the data and perform decryption as normal.
## Data Type
Boolean
# Config Method ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
Sets or retrieves a configuration setting.
## Syntax
```text
ANSI (Cross Platform)
char* Config(const char* lpszConfigurationString);

Unicode (Windows)
LPWSTR Config(LPCWSTR lpszConfigurationString);
```
## Remarks
Config is a generic method available in every class. It is used to set and retrieve [configuration settings](#config-settings-dpapi-class) for the class.
These settings are similar in functionality to properties, but they are rarely used. In order to avoid "polluting" the property namespace of the class, access to these *internal properties* is provided through the Config method.
To set a configuration setting named *PROPERTY*, you must call *Config("PROPERTY=VALUE")*, where *VALUE* is the value of the setting expressed as a string. For boolean values, use the strings "True", "False", "0", "1", "Yes", or "No" (case does not matter).
To read (query) the value of a [configuration setting](#config-settings-dpapi-class), you must call *Config("PROPERTY")*. The value will be returned as a string.
## Error Handling (C++)
This method returns a String value; after it returns, call the *GetLastErrorCode()* method to obtain its result code; *0* indicates success, while a non-zero error code indicates that this method encountered an error during its execution. If an error occurs, the *GetLastError()* method can be called to retrieve the associated error message.
# Protect Method ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
- [OutputFile](#outputfile-property-dpapi-class)
- [OutputMessage](#outputmessage-property-dpapi-class): The output data is written to this property if no other destination is specified.
When using streams, you may need to additionally set [CloseInputStreamAfterProcessing](#CloseInputStreamAfterProcessing) or [CloseOutputStreamAfterProcessing](#CloseOutputStreamAfterProcessing).
## Error Handling (C++)
This method returns a result code; *0* indicates success, while a non-zero error code indicates that this method encountered an error during its execution. If an error occurs, the *GetLastError()* method can be called to retrieve the associated error message. (Note: This method's result code can also be obtained by calling the *GetLastErrorCode()* method after it returns.)
# Unprotect Method ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
Unprotects the data.
## Syntax
```text
ANSI (Cross Platform)
int Unprotect();

Unicode (Windows)
INT Unprotect();
```
## Remarks
Unprotect unprotects the specified data.
On Windows, the class supports the classic Microsoft Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI) or CNG DPAPI implementation. The use of [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) determines which implementation is used. Support for macOS is also available via the macOS keychain.
When using classic DPAPI ([UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is *False*), the following optional properties are applicable:
- [DataDescription](#datadescription-property-dpapi-class) (populated after completion)
- [Password](#password-property-dpapi-class)
When using CNG DPAPI ([UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is *True*), the following properties are applicable:
- [ProtectionDescriptor](#protectiondescriptor-property-dpapi-class) (populated after completion)
- [UseStreamMode](#UseStreamMode)
On macOS, the following settings are applicable:
- [UseSystemKeychain](#UseSystemKeychain)
- [KeychainServiceName](#KeychainServiceName)
**Input and Output Properties**
The class will determine the source and destination of the input and output based on which properties are set.
The order in which the input properties are checked is as follows:
- [SetInputStream](#setinputstream-method-dpapi-class)
- [InputFile](#inputfile-property-dpapi-class)
- [InputMessage](#inputmessage-property-dpapi-class)
When a valid source is found, the search stops. The order in which the output properties are checked is as follows:
- [SetOutputStream](#setoutputstream-method-dpapi-class)
- [OutputFile](#outputfile-property-dpapi-class)
- [OutputMessage](#outputmessage-property-dpapi-class): The output data is written to this property if no other destination is specified.
When using streams, you may need to additionally set [CloseInputStreamAfterProcessing](#CloseInputStreamAfterProcessing) or [CloseOutputStreamAfterProcessing](#CloseOutputStreamAfterProcessing).
**Code Example (Classic DPAPI - [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is False)**
```csharp
//Protect
DPAPI dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.InputMessage = "test";
dpapi.Protect();
byte[] protectedData = dpapi.OutputMessageB;

//Unprotect
dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.InputMessageB = protectedData;
dpapi.Unprotect();
Console.WriteLine(dpapi.OutputMessage); //outputs "test"
```
**Code Example (CNG DPAPI - [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is True**)
```csharp
//Protect
DPAPI dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.UseCNG = true;
dpapi.ProtectionDescriptor = "LOCAL=user";
dpapi.InputMessage = "test";
dpapi.Protect();
byte[] protectedData = dpapi.OutputMessageB;

//Unprotect
dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.UseCNG = true;
dpapi.InputMessageB = protectedData;
dpapi.Unprotect();
Console.WriteLine(dpapi.OutputMessage); //outputs "test"
```
**Code Example (macOS**)
```csharp
//Protect
DPAPI dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.Config("UseSystemKeychain=false");
dpapi.Config("KeychainServiceName=nsoftware OSDP User Key");
dpapi.InputMessage = "test";
dpapi.Protect();
byte[] protectedData = dpapi.OutputMessageB;

//Unprotect
dpapi = new DPAPI();
dpapi.Config("UseSystemKeychain=false");
dpapi.Config("KeychainServiceName=nsoftware OSDP User Key");
dpapi.InputMessageB = protectedData;
dpapi.Unprotect();
Console.WriteLine(dpapi.OutputMessage); //outputs "test"
```
## Error Handling (C++)
This method returns a result code; *0* indicates success, while a non-zero error code indicates that this method encountered an error during its execution. If an error occurs, the *GetLastError()* method can be called to retrieve the associated error message. (Note: This method's result code can also be obtained by calling the *GetLastErrorCode()* method after it returns.)
# Error Event ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
Fired when information is available about errors during data delivery.
## Syntax
```text
ANSI (Cross Platform)
virtual int FireError(DPAPIErrorEventParams *e);
typedef struct {  int ErrorCode;  const char *Description;
  int reserved;
} DPAPIErrorEventParams;

Unicode (Windows)
virtual INT FireError(DPAPIErrorEventParams *e);
typedef struct {  INT ErrorCode;  LPCWSTR Description;
  INT reserved;
} DPAPIErrorEventParams;
```
## Remarks
The Error event is fired in case of exceptional conditions during message processing. Normally the class fails with an error.
The *ErrorCode* parameter contains an error code, and the *Description* parameter contains a textual description of the error. For a list of valid error codes and their descriptions, please refer to the [Error Codes](#trappable-errors-dpapi-class) section.
# Progress Event ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
Fired as progress is made.
## Syntax
```text
ANSI (Cross Platform)
virtual int FireProgress(DPAPIProgressEventParams *e);
typedef struct {  int64 BytesProcessed;  int PercentProcessed;
  int reserved;
} DPAPIProgressEventParams;

Unicode (Windows)
virtual INT FireProgress(DPAPIProgressEventParams *e);
typedef struct {  LONG64 BytesProcessed;  INT PercentProcessed;
  INT reserved;
} DPAPIProgressEventParams;
```
## Remarks
This event is fired automatically as data is processed by the class.
The *PercentProcessed* parameter indicates the current status of the operation.
The *BytesProcessed* parameter holds the total number of bytes processed so far.
# IPWorksEncryptStream Type
## Syntax
 *IPWorksEncryptStream* (declared in *ipworksencrypt.h*)
## Remarks
 The DPAPI class includes one or more API members that take a stream object as a parameter. To use such API members, create a concrete class that implements the IPWorksEncryptStream interface and pass the DPAPI class an instance of that concrete class.
 When implementing the IPWorksEncryptStream interface's properties and methods, they must behave as described below. If the concrete class's implementation does not behave as expected, undefined behavior may occur.
```text
bool CanRead() { return true; }
```
```text
bool CanSeek() { return true; }
```
```text
bool CanWrite() { return true; }
```
```text
int64 GetLength() = 0;
```
```text
void Close() {}
```
```text
int Flush() { return 0; }
```
```text
int Read(void* buffer, int count) = 0;
```
```text
int64 Seek(int64 offset, int seekOrigin) = 0;
```
```text
int Write(const void* buffer, int count) = 0;
```
|  |  |
| --- | --- |
| Properties |  |
| CanRead | Whether the stream supports reading. |
| CanSeek | Whether the stream supports seeking. |
| CanWrite | Whether the stream supports writing. |
| Length | Gets the length of the stream, in bytes. |
| Methods |  |
| Close | Closes the stream, releasing all resources currently allocated for it. This method is called automatically when an IPWorksEncryptStream object is deleted. |
| Flush | Forces all data held by the stream's buffers to be written out to storage. Must return 0 if flushing is successful; or -1 if an error occurs or the stream is closed. If the stream does not support writing, this method must do nothing and return 0. |
| Read | Reads a sequence of bytes from the stream and advances the current position within the stream by the number of bytes read. Buffer specifies the buffer to populate with data from the stream. Count specifies the number of bytes that should be read from the stream. Must return the total number of bytes read into Buffer; this may be less than Count if that many bytes are not currently available, or 0 if the end of the stream has been reached. Must return -1 if an error occurs, if reading is not supported, or if the stream is closed. |
| Seek | Sets the current position within the stream based on a particular point of origin. Offset specifies the offset in the stream to seek to, relative to SeekOrigin. Valid values for SeekOrigin are: 0: Seek from beginning. 1: Seek from current position. 2: Seek from end. Must return the new position within the stream; or -1 if an error occurs, if seeking is not supported, or if the stream is closed (however, see note below). If -1 is returned, the current position within the stream must remain unchanged. Note: If the stream is not closed, it must always be possible to call this method with an Offset of 0 and a SeekOrigin of 1 to obtain the current position within the stream, even if seeking is not otherwise supported. |
| Write | Writes a sequence of bytes to the stream and advances the current position within the stream by the number of bytes written. Buffer specifies the buffer with data to write to the stream. Count specifies the number of bytes that should be written to the stream. Must return the total number of bytes written to the stream; this may be less than Count if that many bytes could not be written. Must return -1 if an error occurs, if writing is not supported, or if the stream is closed. |
# Config Settings ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
 The class accepts one or more of the following *configuration settings*. Configuration settings are similar in functionality to properties, but they are rarely used. In order to avoid "polluting" the property namespace of the class, access to these *internal properties* is provided through the [Config](#config-method-dpapi-class) method.
### DPAPI Config Settings
**EscapeDescriptor**: Whether to escape the protection descriptor.This setting controls whether the [ProtectionDescriptor](#protectiondescriptor-property-dpapi-class) value is escaped when [Protect](#protect-method-dpapi-class) is called. When set to *False* (default) the value is passed exactly as provided to the underlying system libraries. When set to *True* the value is first escaped according to the escaping rules defined by Microsoft.
The default value of [EscapeDescriptor](#EscapeDescriptor) is *True*.
This setting is only applicable when [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is set to *True*.
This setting is not applicable on macOS.
**KeychainServiceName**: Service name for the keychain on macOS.This setting is used to specify the service name for the keychain on macOS. By default, *nsoftware OSDP User Key* is used as the service name for the user keychain. *nsoftware OSDP System Key* is used for the system keychain when [UseSystemKeychain](#UseSystemKeychain) is set to *True*.
**ProtectionFlags**: Used to specify additional options.Additional options are available to restrict or change the behavior of the protect and unprotect operations.
By default no additional settings are specified (the value is 0). You may set this property to the binary 'OR' of one or more of the following values:
|  |  |  |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 (0x1) | CRYPTPROTECT_UI_FORBIDDEN | This flag is used for remote situations where presenting a user interface (UI) is not an option. When this flag is set and a UI is specified for either the protect or unprotect operation, the operation fails. |
| 4 (0x4) | CRYPTPROTECT_LOCAL_MACHINE | When this flag is set, it associates the data encrypted with the current computer instead of with an individual user. This is only applicable when calling [Protect](#protect-method-dpapi-class). |
| 8 (0x8) | CRYPTPROTECT_CRED_SYNC | When this flag is used, no data is actually protected. Instead all MasterKeys are queried from disk, which will cause re-encryption in memory, presumably under a changed password. This is only applicable when calling [Protect](#protect-method-dpapi-class). |
| 16 (0x10) | CRYPTPROTECT_AUDIT | This flag causes DPAPI to generate an audit when this data is protected or unprotected. This is only applicable when calling [Protect](#protect-method-dpapi-class). |
| 64 (0x40) | CRYPTPROTECT_VERIFY_PROTECTION | If the protected data blob would be better protected under a new call to the internal protect function and this call succeeds, then GetLastError will return a CRYPT_I_NEW_PROTECTION_REQUIRED status code. This is only applicable when calling [Unprotect](#unprotect-method-dpapi-class). |
| 536870912 (0x20000000) | CRYPTPROTECT_SYSTEM | If data was protected with this flag set, then this flag must be set to unprotect the data. |
This setting is not applicable when [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is set to *True*.
This setting is not applicable on macOS.
**UseStreamMode**: Whether to use the CNG streaming operations.When set to *True* the class will use the CNG streaming operations when [Protect](#protect-method-dpapi-class) and [Unprotect](#unprotect-method-dpapi-class) are called. When working with large amounts of data this can reduce the memory overhead during processing. Note that when enabled [InputFile](#inputfile-property-dpapi-class) and [OutputFile](#outputfile-property-dpapi-class) should be used for optimal memory usage.
The default value of [UseStreamMode](#UseStreamMode) is *False*.
This setting is only applicable when [UseCNG](#usecng-property-dpapi-class) is set to *True*.
This setting is not applicable on macOS.
**UseSystemKeychain**: Whether to save the key and IV in the macOS System keychain.When set to *True*, the key and IV will be saved in the macOS system keychain with the service name *nsoftware OSDP System Key*. Administrator privileges are required to use this config. This config is not supported on iOS.
The default value of [UseSystemKeychain](#UseSystemKeychain) is *False*, and the key and IV are stored in the user keychain with the service name *nsoftware OSDP User Key*.
### Base Config Settings
**BuildInfo**: Information about the product's build.When queried, this setting will return a string containing information about the product's build.
**LicenseInfo**: Information about the current license.When queried, this setting will return a string containing information about the license this instance of a class is using. It will return the following information:
- Product: The product the license is for.
- Product Key: The key the license was generated from.
- License Source: Where the license was found (e.g., RuntimeLicense, License File).
- License Type: The type of license installed (e.g., Royalty Free, Single Server).
- Last Valid Build: The last valid build number for which the license will work.
**MaskSensitiveData**: Whether sensitive data is masked in log messages.In certain circumstances it may be beneficial to mask sensitive data, like passwords, in log messages. Set this to *true* to mask sensitive data. The default is *true*.
**ProcessIdleEvents**: Whether the class uses its internal event loop to process events when the main thread is idle.If set to False, the class will not fire internal idle events. Set this to False to use the class in a background thread on Mac OS. By default, this setting is True.
**SelectWaitMillis**: The length of time in milliseconds the class will wait when DoEvents is called if there are no events to process.If there are no events to process when DoEvents is called, the class will wait for the amount of time specified here before returning. The default value is 20.
**UseFIPSCompliantAPI**: Tells the class whether or not to use FIPS certified APIs.When set to *true*, the class will utilize the underlying operating system's certified APIs. Java editions, regardless of OS, utilize Bouncy Castle Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), while all other Windows editions make use of Microsoft security libraries.
On Linux, the C++ edition requires installation of the FIPS-enabled OpenSSL library. The OpenSSL FIPS provider version must be at least 3.0.0. For additional information and instructions regarding the installation and activation of the FIPS-enabled OpenSSL library, please refer to the following link: [https://github.com/openssl/openssl/blob/master/README-FIPS.md](https://github.com/openssl/openssl/blob/master/README-FIPS.md)
To ensure the class utilizes the FIPS-enabled OpenSSL library, the obfuscated source code should first be compiled with OpenSSL enabled, as described in the Supported Platforms section. Additionally, the FIPS module should be enabled and active. If the obfuscated source code is not compiled as mentioned, or the FIPS module is inactive, the class will throw an appropriate error assuming FIPS mode is enabled.
FIPS mode can be enabled by setting the *UseFIPSCompliantAPI* configuration setting to *true*. This is a static setting that applies to all instances of all classes of the toolkit within the process. It is recommended to enable or disable this setting once before the component has been used to establish a connection. Enabling FIPS while an instance of the component is active and connected may result in unexpected behavior.
For more details, please see the [FIPS 140-2 Compliance](https://www.nsoftware.com/kb/articles/fips.rst) article.
NOTE: This setting is applicable only on Windows.
NOTE: Enabling FIPS compliance requires a special license; please contact [sales@nsoftware.com](mailto:sales@nsoftware.com) for details.
**UseInternalSecurityAPI**: Whether or not to use the system security libraries or an internal implementation. When set to *false*, the class will use the system security libraries by default to perform cryptographic functions where applicable.
Setting this configuration setting to *true* tells the class to use the internal implementation instead of using the system security libraries.
 On Windows, this setting is set to *false* by default. On Linux/macOS, this setting is set to *true* by default.
 To use the system security libraries for Linux, OpenSSL support must be enabled. For more information on how to enable OpenSSL, please refer to the [OpenSSL Notes](platforms.md) section.
# Trappable Errors ([DPAPI](#dpapi-class) Class)
## Error Handling (C++)
Call the *GetLastErrorCode()* method to obtain the last called method's result code; *0* indicates success, while a non-zero error code indicates that this method encountered an error during its execution. Known error codes are listed below. If an error occurs, the *GetLastError()* method can be called to retrieve the associated error message.
### DPAPI Errors
