VerifySignature Method

Verifies the signature of the current message.

Syntax

smime.verifySignature([callback])

Callback

The 'callback' parameter specifies a function which will be called when the operation completes (or an error is encountered). If the 'callback' parameter is not specified, then the method will block and will not return until the operation completes (or an error is encountered).

The callback for this method is defined as:

function(err){ }

'err' is the error that occurred. If there was no error, then 'err' is 'null'.

'err' has 2 properties which hold detailed information:

err.code
err.message

Remarks

This method attempts to verify the signature of the input message. If the message does not have a certificate attached, the class will attempt to verify the signature using the certificate supplied in SignerCert (if any). If no certificate is found, the class fails with an error.

If this method is successful, the SignerCert property will contain the certificate information of the message signer.

NOTE: This function does not attempt to check the validity of the signing certificate itself.

Input and Output Properties

The class will determine the source and destination of the input and output based on which properties are set.

The order in which the input properties are checked is as follows:

When a valid source is found the search stops. The order in which the output properties are checked is as follows:

The headers of the input message (if any) will be read from InputMessageHeaders or InputMessageHeadersString.

The headers of the resulting message will be available in the OutputMessageHeaders and OutputMessageHeadersString properties.
