Key Property

Provides an encryption key for the vault.

Syntax

 passwordvault.getKey([callback])
 passwordvault.setKey( key_Buffer, [callback])

Callback

The 'callback' parameter specifies a function which will be called when the operation completes (or an error is encountered). If the 'callback' parameter is not specified, then the method will block and will not return until the operation completes (or an error is encountered).

The callback for the getKey([callback]) method is defined as:

function(err, buffer){ }

'err' is the error that occurred. If there was no error, then 'err' is 'null'.

'buffer' is the value returned by the method.

The callback for the setKey([callback]) method is defined as:

function(err){ }

'err' is the error that occurred. If there was no error, then 'err' is 'null'.

'err' has 2 properties which hold detailed information:

err.code
err.message

Remarks

Use this property to provide the 'master' key for the vault file. This property can be assigned from the KeyNeeded event handler.

The content of this property is automatically generated when a non-empty password is assigned to the Password property. This is because the vault fileare always encrypted with a cryptographically strong key, and if the user decides to use a password, it is converted to such key using a secure PBKDF function first.

This property is not available at design time.
