HTTP Task

Properties   Config Settings

The HTTP component provides a flexible HTTP client to send and receive data to web servers.

Remarks

The HTTP task implements a highly configurable HTTP client that is capable of sending and receiving data to and from web servers. Support includes issuing simple GET requests as well as defining custom form and file parameters to be POSTed to server. URL defines the location to which the request is made.

The task supports HTTP 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 which can be configured in the HTTPVersion property.

The HTTPMethod property defines the HTTP method to use. Possible values are:

  • DELETE
  • GET (default)
  • HEAD
  • POST
  • PUT
  • TRACE

Getting Data From the Server

In both the Send Task and the Receive Task if HTTPMethod is set to GET the request is issued to the server specified by URL. Additional custom headers may be specified in the request by setting OtherHeaders.

The response received by the task will be saved to LocalFile if specified. Otherwise it will populate the variables specified by TransferredHeaders and TransferredData

Sending Data To the Server

When HTTPMethod is set to POST or PUT data will be sent to the server. The RequestParams property specifies one or more parameters to add to the POST or PUT request. This property is only applicable when the HTTPMethod property is set to POST or PUT.

To specify additional parameters set this property to one or more name value pairs. Set one pair on each line. For instance: name1=value1 name2=value2

The task will format a request with parameters slightly differently depending on whether the request is made by the Send or Receive adapter.

Note: To have complete control over the data being sent set PostData instead.

Send Task

When sending a POST or PUT request the AttachedFile will always be used as the last parameter regardless of the values specified in RequestParams. Several examples and additional details follow.

Basic Example:

Setting the RequestParams to a value of: name1=value1 name2=value2

Will result in a HTTP request like this: POST / HTTP/1.1 Host: www.nsoftware.com Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: IPWorks HTTP Component - www.nsoftware.com Connection: close Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary="boundaryV+iTxA==" Content-Length: 335 --boundaryV+iTxA== Content-Disposition: form-data; name="name1" Content-Type: text/plain value1 --boundaryV+iTxA== Content-Disposition: form-data; name="name2" Content-Type: text/plain value2 --boundaryV+iTxA==--

Notice that the default "Content-Type" for the individual request parameters is "text/plain" See the following examples for further details.

Custom Request Parameter Content-Type Values:

When sending requests the RequestParams may optionally include a custom Content-Type value. The syntax is:

[ContentType]name=value

For instance setting RequestParams to a value of: [text/html]name1=value1 [my/type]name2=value2 name3=value3 Will result in a HTTP request like: POST / HTTP/1.1 Host: www.nsoftware.com Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: IPWorks HTTP Component - www.nsoftware.com Connection: close Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary="boundaryQDNEUw==" Content-Length: 439 --boundaryQDNEUw== Content-Disposition: form-data; name="name1" Content-Type: text/html value1 --boundaryQDNEUw== Content-Disposition: form-data; name="name2" Content-Type: my/type value2 --boundaryQDNEUw== Content-Disposition: form-data; name="name3" Content-Type: text/plain value3 --boundaryQDNEUw==--

Note the updated Content-Type header values for the "name1" and "name2" parameters.

Custom Content-Type and Name Values for the AttachedFile Variable:

The default Content-Type value for the AttachedFile form variable is "application/octet-stream". This can be explicitly defined in the ContentType property. For instance setting:

And leaving RequestParams unspecified (no parameters) will result in a HTTP request like:

POST / HTTP/1.1 Host: www.nsoftware.com Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: IPWorks HTTP Component - www.nsoftware.com Connection: close Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary="boundaryVAJHkA==" Content-Length: 142 --boundaryVAJHkA== Content-Disposition: form-data; name="myfile.txt" Content-Type: text/html file contents --boundaryVAJHkA==--

Receive Task

In the receive adapter the RequestParams are used to form the body of the POST or PUT request using the more lightweight encoding "application/x-www-form-urlencoded". For instance, setting the request parameters to: name1=value1 name2=value2

Will result in a HTTP request like:

POST / HTTP/1.1 Host: www.nsoftware.com Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate User-Agent: IPWorks HTTP Component - www.nsoftware.com Connection: close Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded Content-Length: 25 name1=value1&name2=value2

To maintain complete control over the POST body PostData may be set instead. Additional Settings

AttachedFile Property (HTTP Task)

A file to include in the POST data.

Data Type

String

Default Value

""

Remarks

This property optionally specifies a file that will be sent as request parameter. This is only applicable when HTTPMethod is set to POST or PUT.

When set ContentType may be set to specify the Content-Type header for this parameter.

This property is not available in the Receiver.

Authorization Property (HTTP Task)

The Authorization string to be sent to the server.

Data Type

String

Default Value

""

Remarks

If the Authorization property contains a non-empty string, an Authorization HTTP request header is added to the request. This header conveys Authorization information to the server.

A common use for this property is to specify OAuth authorization string.

This property is provided so that the HTTP task can be extended with other security schemes in addition to the authorization schemes already implemented by the task.

The AuthScheme property defines the authentication scheme used. In the case of HTTP Basic Authentication (default), every time User and Password are set, they are Base64 encoded, and the result is put in the Authorization property in the form "Basic [encoded-user-password]".

AuthScheme Property (HTTP Task)

The authorization scheme to be used when server authorization is to be performed.

Data Type

Enumeration

Possible Values

Basic (0)
Digest (1)
Proprietary (2)
None (3)
Ntlm (4)
Negotiate (5)
OAuth (6)

Default Value

0

Remarks

This property specifies the type of authentication to perform. Possible values are:

  • Basic
  • Digest
  • Proprietary
  • None
  • NTLM
  • Negotiate
  • OAuth

In most cases this setting is only applicable if User and Password is set.

This property is also applicable without setting User and Password if the AuthScheme is set to NTLM or Negotiate. In that case the current user credentials will be used.

AuthScheme should be set to authNone (3) when no authentication is to be performed (or do not set HTTPUser and HTTPPassword).

By default, AuthScheme is authBasic (0), and if the HTTPUser and HTTPPassword properties are set, the task will attempt basic authentication. If AuthScheme is set to authDigest (1) or authNtlm (4), digest or NTLM authentication will be attempted instead.

If AuthScheme is set to authProprietary (2) then the authorization token must be supplied through the HTTPAuthorization configuration. Note that, if you set the HTTPAuthorization config, the AuthScheme will be set automatically to authProprietary (2) by the control.

If AuthScheme is set to authOAuth (6) then the authorization string must be supplied through Authorization property.

ContentType Property (HTTP Task)

Defines the Content-Type header in the request.

Data Type

String

Default Value

Remarks

Normally, the task returns an error if the server responds with an "Object Moved" message. If FollowRedirects is set to frAlways (1) the new URL for the object is retrieved automatically every time.

If FollowRedirects is set to frSameScheme (2), the new URL is retrieved automatically only if the URL scheme is the same, otherwise the task generate a runtime error.

Furthermore, if either the new URL server and port are different than the existing one, HTTPUser and HTTPPassword are also reset to empty, unless FollowRedirects is set to frAlways (1), in which case the same credentials are used to connect to the new server.

The default value is frNever (0). In this case, redirects are never followed, and a runtime error is generated instead.

HTTPMethod Property (HTTP Task)

The HTTP method used for the request.

Data Type

Enumeration

Possible Values

DELETE (0)
GET (1)
HEAD (2)
POST (3)
PUT (4)

When using HTTP/2 ("2.0") additional details apply. Please see notes below for details.

HTTP/2 Notes

When using HTTP/2 only secure (TLS/SSL) connections are currently supported. Attempting to use a plaintext URL with HTTP/2 will result in an error.

If the server does not support HTTP/2 the task will automatically use HTTP/1.1 instead. This is done in order to provide compatibility without the need for any additional settings. The AllowHTTPFallback setting controls whether this behavior is allowed (default) or disallowed.

HTTP/2 is supported on all versions of Windows. If the Windows version is prior to Windows 8.1/Windows Server 2012 R2 the internal security implementation will be used. If the Windows version is Window 8.1/Windows Server 2012 R2 or later the system security libraries will be used by default.

Remarks

You can use the RuntimeLicense property to set the runtime key for the task license.

SSLAcceptServerCert Property (HTTP Task)

Instructs the component to unconditionally accept the server certificate that matches the supplied certificate.

Data Type

Certificate

Remarks

If it finds any issues with the certificate presented by the server, the task will normally terminate the connection with an error. You may override this behavior by supplying a value for SSLAcceptServerCert. If the certificate supplied in SSLAcceptServerCert is the same as the certificate presented by the server, then the server certificate is accepted unconditionally, and the connection will continue normally.

This property is used to set a Public Key Certificate.

Ordinarily, the system will attempt to locate the public key in trusted certificate stores in the system registry. If a match is found, the certificate is trusted, and the process proceeds without error. If the certificate is not trusted, the task will report an error.

You may explicitly set a public key, either to accept a key that is not installed on the system, or to ensure that a specific key is presented. Public key certificates may be loaded from the machine registry or from file. If you click on the ellipses, a certificate selection dialog will open. To select a public key from the system registry, select the System Store tab or the User Store tab, and highlight the appropriate registry store. The list of available certificates will be shown below.

Alternatively, you may specify a public key on file. Select the PEM or Certificate File tabs to load a public key from file. You can use the browse button to examine the file system for the certificate that you wish to use. Public keys typically are stored in .CER, .DER, or .PEM files, but other formats may be used. You can click on the Open button to examine the contents of the certificate. Or, if you have a certificate stored in memory, you can write the contents of the certificate into the text box provided. Note that if you are loading a certificate from memory, the certificate must be Base-64 encoded, or the string representation of the certificate may become corrupted and uninterpretable.

Regardless of how you selected the certificate, once you hit the OK button, the task will attempt to verify that certificate selection. If successful, the subject of the certificate will be displayed in the property field. If the task was not able to verify the selection, a dialog box will appear instead detailing the verification error.

Note: You may also set SSLAcceptServerCertAcceptAny to True without opening the certificate selection dialog to force the task to unilaterally authenticate any server during the security handshake. It is strongly recommended that you use this only for testing purposes.

SSLAcceptServerCertAcceptAny Property (HTTP Task)

Tells the component to accept any server certificate.

Data Type

Boolean

Default Value

false

Remarks

When set to true, the task will unilaterally authenticate any server during the security handshake. It is strongly recommended that you use this only for testing purposes.

SSLCert Property (HTTP Task)

The certificate to use for client authentication during the SSL handshake.

Data Type

Certificate

Remarks

This property is used to assign a specific certificate for SSL client authentication.

This field is used to set a Private Key Certificate.

Private key certificates may be loaded from the registry, from files in PKCS#12 format, or from a PEM file format. If you click on the ellipses, a certificate selection dialog will open. To select a private key from the system registry, select the System Store tab or the User Store tab, and highlight the appropriate registry store. The list of certificates which have private keys will be shown below.

To select a private key certificate from a file in PKCS#12 format, select the PFX Store tab. The browse button can be used to examine the file system for PKCS#12 (.pfx or .p12) certificates. If you wish to examine the certificate, provide the password in the field provided and click on the Open button to examine the file store for certificates present. To load a certificate from PEM files, select the PEM tab. Like the PFX file selection, you can specify the password and click the Open button to examine the certificates in the PEM store, or you may paste any PEM data stored in memory.

Regardless of how you selected the certificate, once you hit the OK button, the task will attempt to verify that certificate selection. If successful, the subject of the certificate will be displayed in the property field. If the task was not able to verify the selection, a dialog box will appear instead detailing the verification error.

StatusLine Property (HTTP Task)

The first line of the last server response.

Data Type

String

Default Value

""

Remarks

This property holds the first line of the server response. This indicates the status of the request. For instance: HTTP/1.1 200 OK

This property is read-only.

This property is not available in the Receiver.

Timeout Property (HTTP Task)

A timeout for the component.

Data Type

Integer

Default Value

60

Remarks

If the Timeout property is set to 0, all operations will run uninterrupted until successful completion, or an error condition is encountered.

If Timeout is set to a positive value, the task will wait for the operation to complete before returning control.

If Timeout expires, and the operation is not yet complete, the task fails with an error.

Please note that by default, all timeouts are inactivity timeouts, i.e. the timeout period is extended by Timeout seconds when data is successfully sent or received.

Optionally, the behavior of the task may be changed to absolute timeouts, i.e. the task will wait for a maximum of Timeout seconds since the beginning of the operation, without extending the timeout period during communications.

This behavior is controlled by the AbsoluteTimeout configuration setting.

The default value for the Timeout property is 60 (seconds).

TransferredData Property (HTTP Task)

The body of the HTTP response.

Data Type

If HTTP Basic Authentication is used to authenticate the user, User and Password are Base64-encoded.

If HTTP Digest Authentication is used to, the User and HTTPPassword properties are used to respond to the HTTP Digest Authentication challenge from the server.

Certificate Type

The digital certificate being used.

Remarks

This type describes the current digital certificate. The certificate may be a public or private key. The fields are used to identify or select certificates.

Fields

Store
String

The name of the certificate store for the client certificate.

The StoreType field specifies the type of the certificate store specified by Store. If the store is password protected, specify the password in StorePassword.

Store is used in conjunction with the Subject field in order to specify client certificates. If Store has a value, and Subject is set, a search for a certificate is initiated. Please refer to the Subject field for details.

Designations of certificate stores are platform-dependent.

The following are designations of the most common User and Machine certificate stores in Windows:

MYA certificate store holding personal certificates with their associated private keys.
CACertifying authority certificates.
ROOTRoot certificates.
SPCSoftware publisher certificates.

In Java, the certificate store normally is a file containing certificates and optional private keys.

When the certificate store type is PFXFile, this property must be set to the name of the file. When the type is PFXBlob, the property must be set to the binary contents of a PFX file (i.e. PKCS12 certificate store).

If the provider is OpenSSL, the certificate store is a file containing a certificate and a private key. This property must be set to the name of the file.

StoreType
CertStoreTypes

The type of certificate store for this certificate.

The task supports both public and private keys in a variety of formats. When the cstAuto value is used, the task will automatically determine the type. This field can take one of the following values:

0 (cstUser - default)For Windows, this specifies that the certificate store is a certificate store owned by the current user.

Note: This store type is not available in Java.

1 (cstMachine)For Windows, this specifies that the certificate store is a machine store.

Note: This store type is not available in Java.

2 (cstPFXFile)The certificate store is the name of a PFX (PKCS#12) file containing certificates.
3 (cstPFXBlob)The certificate store is a string (binary or Base64-encoded) representing a certificate store in PFX (PKCS#12) format.
4 (cstJKSFile)The certificate store is the name of a Java Key Store (JKS) file containing certificates.

Note: This store type is only available in Java.

5 (cstJKSBlob)The certificate store is a string (binary or Base64-encoded) representing a certificate store in Java Key Store (JKS) format.

Note: this store type is only available in Java.

6 (cstPEMKeyFile)The certificate store is the name of a PEM-encoded file that contains a private key and an optional certificate.
7 (cstPEMKeyBlob)The certificate store is a string (binary or Base64-encoded) that contains a private key and an optional certificate.

Note: This store type is only available in Java and .NET.

22 (cstBCFKSBlob)The certificate store is a string (binary or Base64-encoded) representing a certificate store in BCFKS (Bouncy Castle FIPS Key Store) format.

Note: This store type is only available in Java and .NET.

23 (cstPKCS11)The certificate is present on a physical security key accessible via a PKCS#11 interface.

To use a security key, the necessary data must first be collected using the CERTMGR task. The ListStoreCertificates method may be called after setting CertStoreType to cstPKCS11, CertStorePassword to the PIN, and CertStore to the full path of the PKCS#11 DLL. The certificate information returned in the CertList event's CertEncoded parameter may be saved for later use.

When using a certificate, pass the previously saved security key information as the Store and set StorePassword to the PIN.

Code Example. SSH Authentication with Security Key: certmgr.CertStoreType = CertStoreTypes.cstPKCS11; certmgr.OnCertList += (s, e) => { secKeyBlob = e.CertEncoded; }; certmgr.CertStore = @"C:\Program Files\OpenSC Project\OpenSC\pkcs11\opensc-pkcs11.dll"; certmgr.CertStorePassword = "123456"; //PIN certmgr.ListStoreCertificates(); sftp.SSHCert = new Certificate(CertStoreTypes.cstPKCS11, secKeyBlob, "123456", "*"); sftp.SSHUser = "test"; sftp.SSHLogon("myhost", 22);

99 (cstAuto)The store type is automatically detected from the input data. This setting may be used with both public and private keys and can detect any of the supported formats automatically.

Firewall Type

The firewall the component will connect through.

Remarks

When connecting through a firewall, this type is used to specify different properties of the firewall such as the firewall Host and the FirewallType.

Fields

Host
String

Name or IP address of firewall (optional). If a Host is given, requested connections will be authenticated through the specified firewall when connecting.

If the Host field is set to a Domain Name, a DNS request is initiated. Upon successful termination of the request, the Host field is set to the corresponding address. If the search is not successful, an error is returned.

Password
String

A password if authentication is to be used when connecting through the firewall. If Host is specified, the User and Password fields are used to connect and authenticate to the given firewall. If the authentication fails, a trappable error is fired.

Port
Integer

The TCP port for the firewall Host. See the description of the Host field for details.

Note that the Port is set automatically when FirewallType is set to a valid value. See the description of the FirewallType field for details.

User
String

A user name if authentication is to be used connecting through a firewall. If the Host is specified, the User and Password fields are used to connect and authenticate to the given Firewall. If the authentication fails, a trappable error is fired.

OAuthAuthorizationParam Type

This type holds details of the OAuth authorization.

Remarks

This type holds details of the OAuth authorization.

Fields

TimeStamp
String

The timestamp of the OAuth authorization string.

This field holds the timestamp of when the AuthorizationString was retrieved. This is used in conjunction with ExpiresIn to calculate if refreshing the token is required. For more details see ExpiresIn.

This value should not be set manually.

Proxy Type

The proxy the component will connect to.

Remarks

When connecting through a proxy, this type is used to specify different properties of the proxy such as the Server and the AuthScheme.

Fields

AuthScheme
ProxyAuthSchemes

Use the AuthScheme field to tell the task which type of authorization to perform when connecting to the proxy. This is only used when the User and Password fields are set.

AuthScheme should be set to authNone (3) when no authentication is expected.

By default, AuthScheme is authBasic (0), and if the User and Password fields are set, the component will attempt basic authentication. If AuthScheme is set to authDigest (1), digest authentication will be attempted instead.

If AuthScheme is set to authProprietary (2), then the authorization token will not be generated by the task. Look at the configuration file for the task being used to find more information about manually setting this token.

If AuthScheme is set to authNtlm (4), NTLM authentication will be used. This option is only available in the SSL package.

For security reasons, setting this property will clear the values of User and Password.

Password
String

A password if authentication is to be used for the proxy.

If AuthScheme is set to Basic Authentication, the User and Password are Base64 encoded and the proxy authentication token will be generated in the form "Basic [encoded-user-password]".

If AuthScheme is set to Digest Authentication, the User and Password fields are used to respond to the Digest Authentication challenge from the server.

If AuthScheme is set to NTLM Authentication, the User and Password fields are used to authenticate through NTLM negotiation.

Port
Integer

The TCP port for the proxy Server (default 80). See the description of the Server field for details.

Server
String

If a proxy Server is given, then the HTTP request is sent to the proxy instead of the server otherwise specified.

If the Server field is set to a Domain Name, a DNS request is initiated and upon successful termination of the request, the Server field is set to the corresponding address. If the search is not successful, an error is returned.

User
String

A user name, if authentication is to be used for the proxy.

Config Settings (HTTP Task)

The task accepts one or more of the following configuration settings. Configuration settings are similar in functionality to properties, but they are rarely used. In order to avoid "polluting" the property namespace of the task, access to these internal properties is provided through the Other property.

HTTP Config Settings

Accept:   A list of acceptable MIME types for the request.

If this setting contains a non-empty string, a HTTP Accept header is added to the request.

The Accept header is used for content negotiation. It provides the server with a comma-separated list of MIME types that are acceptable for its response.

AcceptEncoding:   Used to tell the server which types of content encodings the client supports.

When AllowHTTPCompression is true, the task adds an "Accept-Encoding: " header to the request being sent to the server. By default, this header's value is "gzip, deflate". This config allows you to change the value of the "Accept-Encoding" header. NOTE: The task only supports gzip and deflate decompression algorithms.

AllowHTTPCompression:   This property enables HTTP compression for receiving data.

This setting enables HTTP compression for receiving data. When set to true, the task will accept compressed data. It will then uncompress the data it has received. The task will handle data compressed by both GZIP and Deflate compression algorithms.

When true, the task adds an "Accept-Encoding" header to the outgoing request. The value for this header can be controlled by the AcceptEncoding config. The default value for this header is "gzip, deflate".

AllowHTTPFallback:   Specifies whether HTTP/2 connections can fall back to HTTP/1.1.

This setting controls whether HTTP/2 connections are permitted to fallback to HTTP/1.1 when the server does not support HTTP/2. This setting is only applicable when HTTPVersion is set to "2.0".

If set to True (default) the task will automatically use HTTP/1.1 if the server does not support HTTP/2. If set to False the task fails with an error if the server does not support HTTP/2.

The default value is True.

ChunkSize:   Specifies the chunk size in bytes when using chunked encoding.

This is only applicable when UseChunkedEncoding is true. This setting specifies the chunk size in bytes to be used when posting data. The default value is 16384.

CustomRequestMethod:   Specifies the HTTP method to be used.

This setting may be used to specify a HTTP method that is not already supported via HTTPMethod. If specified PostData is also applicable.

EncodeURL:   If set to true the URL will be encoded by the component.

If set to True the URL passed to the task will be URL encoded. The default value is False.

IfModifiedSince:   A date determining the maximum age of the desired document.

If this setting contains a non-empty string, an If-Modified-Since HTTP header is added to the request. The value of this header is used to make the HTTP request conditional: if the requested documented has not been modified since the time specified in the field, a copy of the document will not be returned from the server; instead, a 304 (not modified) response will be returned by the server and the component throws an exception

The format of the date value for IfModifiedSince is detailed in the HTTP specs. An example is: Sat, 29 Oct 2017 19:43:31 GMT.

KerberosSPN:   The Service Principal Name for the Kerberos Domain Controller.

If the Service Principal Name on the Kerberos Domain Controller is not the same as the URL that you are authenticating to, the Service Principal Name should be set here.

LogDebugData:   Whether to log debug data.

This setting controls whether the raw HTTP Request and Response are logged. The default value is False. This is only applicable if TransportLog LogMode is set to Verbose.

LogErrorBody:   Whether to include the body of an error in the log message.

When false (default), log messages generated for an exception will only include the HTTP status code, and not the body of the response. When true, the adapter will include the body of the response in the log message. This might be useful for some endpoints where the response body contains further information on the error.

MaxRedirectAttempts:   Limits the number of redirects that are followed in a request.

When FollowRedirects is set to any value besides frNever the task will follow redirects until this maximum number of redirect attempts are made. The default value is 20.

Pragma:   A browser/server specific header line (optional).

If this setting contains a non-empty string, a Pragma HTTP request header is added to the request. The meaning of the header depends on the implementation and can be used to send/receive proprietary information to/from the server.

Range:   The byte-range to be sent to the server.

If this setting contains a non-empty string, a Range HTTP request header is added to the request. This header tells the server to only send a certain range of bytes.

The format of this setting consists of a range of bytes specified by two numbers separated by '-' (e.g. "0-499")

For example:

First 500 bytes 0-499
Second 500 bytes 500-999
Final 500 bytes -500

Referer:   Referer URL/document (optional).

If this setting contains a non-empty string, a Referer HTTP request header is added to the request. The purpose of the header is to show the document referring the requested URL.

ResponseBodyAlwaysAvailable:   Whether the response body is always available.

When false (default), the adapter will only make the response body available if the status code is 200 or 201. When true, the adapter will always make any response body available.

SubmitErrorAsMessage:   Whether errors are submitted as BizTalk messages.

Normally if errors occur the adapter will throw a BizTalk-level error, and potentially shutdown if the error is severe enough. In certain scenarios it may be useful to instead submit the error as a BizTalk message. This allows another portion of an application to handle the error, for example a custom pipeline. Set this to true to submit any errors as BizTalk messages. Be aware that setting this to true will prevent the adapter from shutting down on its own -- you will be resposible for disabling it.

The default value is false.

TransferredDataLimit:   The maximum of data to be transferred.

This setting contains the maximum of data to be transferred. The default value is 0, which will not impose any limits on the amount of data accumulated.

UseChunkedEncoding:   Enables or Disables HTTP chunked encoding for transfers.

If UseChunkedEncoding is set to true, the task will use HTTP chunked encoding when posting if possible. HTTP chunked encoding allows large files to be sent in chunks instead of all at once. If set to false, the task will not use HTTP chunked encoding. The default value is false.

Note: Some servers (such as the ASP.NET Development Server) may not support chunked encoding.

UserAgent:   Information about the user agent (browser).

This is the value supplied in the HTTP User-Agent header. The default setting is "IPWorks HTTP Component - www.nsoftware.com".

Override the default with the name and version of your software.

SSL Config Settings

ReuseSSLSession:   Determines if the SSL session is reused.

If set to true, the task will reuse the context if and only if the following criteria are met:

  • The target host name is the same.
  • The system cache entry has not expired (default timeout is 10 hours).
  • The application process that calls the function is the same.
  • The logon session is the same.
  • The instance of the task is the same.

SSLCipherStrength:   The minimum cipher strength used for bulk encryption.

This minimum cipher strength largely dependent on the security modules installed on the system. If the cipher strength specified is not supported, an error will be returned when connections are initiated.

Please note that this setting contains the minimum cipher strength requested from the security library.

Use this setting with caution. Requesting a lower cipher strength than necessary could potentially cause serious security vulnerabilities in your application.

SSLEnabledCipherSuites:   The cipher suite to be used in an SSL negotiation.

The enabled cipher suites to be used in SSL negotiation.

By default, the enabled cipher suites will include all available ciphers ("*").

The special value "*" means that the task will pick all of the supported cipher suites. If SSLEnabledCipherSuites is set to any other value, only the specified cipher suites will be considered.

Multiple cipher suites are separated by semicolons.

Example values when UseInternalSecurityAPI is False (default): // The "Other" property could contain ONE of the following lines: SSLEnabledCipherSuites=* SSLEnabledCipherSuites=CALG_AES_256 SSLEnabledCipherSuites=CALG_AES_256;CALG_3DES Possible values when UseInternalSecurityAPI is False (default) include:

If SSLEnabledProtocols is configured to use TLS 1.3 the following values are supported:

  • TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256
  • TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384

SSLEnabledCipherSuites is used together with SSLCipherStrength.

SSLEnabledProtocols:   Used to enable/disable the supported security protocols.

Used to enable/disable the supported security protocols.

Not all supported protocols are enabled by default (the value of this setting is 4032). If you want more granular control over the enabled protocols, you can set this property to the binary 'OR' of one or more of the following values:

TLS1.312288 (Hex 3000) (Experimental)
TLS1.23072 (Hex C00) (Default)
TLS1.1768 (Hex 300) (Default)
TLS1 192 (Hex C0) (Default)
SSL3 48 (Hex 30)
SSL2 12 (Hex 0C)

Note: TLS 1.1 and TLS1.2 support are only available starting with Windows 7.

Note: Enabling TLS 1.3 will automatically set UseInternalSecurityAPI to True.

SSLIncludeCertChain:   Whether the entire certificate chain is included in the SSLServerAuthentication event.

This setting specifies whether the transport log contains the full certificate chain. By default this value is False and only the leaf certificate will be present.

If set to True all certificates returned by the server will be present in the transport log. This includes the leaf certificate, any intermediate certificate, and the root certificate.

Note: When UseInternalSecurityAPI is set to True this value is automatically set to True. This is needed for proper validation when using the internal provider.

SSLSecurityFlags:   Flags that control certificate verification.

The following flags are defined (specified in hexadecimal notation). They can be or-ed together to exclude multiple conditions:

0x00000001Ignore time validity status of certificate.
0x00000002Ignore time validity status of CTL.
0x00000004Ignore non-nested certificate times.
0x00000010Allow unknown Certificate Authority.
0x00000020Ignore wrong certificate usage.
0x00000100Ignore unknown certificate revocation status.
0x00000200Ignore unknown CTL signer revocation status.
0x00000400Ignore unknown Certificate Authority revocation status.
0x00000800Ignore unknown Root revocation status.
0x00008000Allow test Root certificate.
0x00004000Trust test Root certificate.
0x80000000Ignore non-matching CN (certificate CN not-matching server name).

TLS12SignatureAlgorithms:   Defines the allowed TLS 1.2 signature algorithms when UseInternalSecurityAPI is True.

This setting specifies the allowed server certificate signature algorithms when UseInternalSecurityAPI is True and SSLEnabledProtocols is set to allow TLS 1.2.

When specified the task will verify that the server certificate signature algorithm is among the values specified in this setting. If the server certificate signature algorithm is unsupported the task will fail with an error.

The format of this value is a comma separated list of hash-signature combinations. For instance: // The "Other" could contain ALL of these lines: UseInternalSecurityAPI=true SSLEnabledProtocols=3072 TLS12SignatureAlgorithms=sha1-rsa,sha1-dsa,sha256-rsa,sha256-dsa The default value for this setting is "sha1-rsa,sha1-dsa,sha224-rsa,sha224-dsa,sha256-rsa,sha256-dsa,sha384-rsa,sha384-dsa,sha512-rsa,sha512-dsa".

In order to not restrict the server's certificate signature algorithm, specify an empty string as the value for this setting, which will cause the signature_algorithms TLS 1.2 extension to not be sent.

TLS12SupportedGroups:   The supported groups for ECC.

This setting specifies a comma separated list of named groups used in TLS 1.2 for ECC.

The default value is ecdhe_secp256r1,ecdhe_secp384r1,ecdhe_secp521r1.

When using TLS 1.2 and UseInternalSecurityAPI is set to True, the values refer to the supported groups for ECC. The following values are supported:

  • "ecdhe_secp256r1" (default)
  • "ecdhe_secp384r1" (default)
  • "ecdhe_secp521r1" (default)

TLS13KeyShareGroups:   The groups for which to pregenerate key shares.

This setting specifies a comma separated list of named groups used in TLS 1.3 for key exchange. The groups specified here will have key share data pregenerated locally before establishing a connection. This can prevent an additional round trip during the handshake if the group is supported by the server.

The default value is set to balance common supported groups and the computational resources required to generate key shares. As a result only some groups are included by default in this setting.

Note: All supported groups can always be used during the handshake even if not listed here, but if a group is used which is not present in this list it will incur an additional round trip and time to generate the key share for that group.

In most cases this setting does not need to be modified. This should only be modified if there is a specific reason to do so.

The default value is ecdhe_x25519,ecdhe_secp256r1,ecdhe_secp384r1,ffdhe_2048,ffdhe_3072

The values are ordered from most preferred to least preferred. The following values are supported:

  • "ecdhe_x25519" (default)
  • "ecdhe_x448"
  • "ecdhe_secp256r1" (default)
  • "ecdhe_secp384r1" (default)
  • "ecdhe_secp521r1"
  • "ffdhe_2048" (default)
  • "ffdhe_3072" (default)
  • "ffdhe_4096"
  • "ffdhe_6144"
  • "ffdhe_8192"

TLS13SignatureAlgorithms:   The allowed certificate signature algorithms.

This setting holds a comma separated list of allowed signature algorithms. Possible values are:

  • "rsa_pkcs1_sha256" (default)
  • "rsa_pkcs1_sha384" (default)
  • "rsa_pkcs1_sha512" (default)
The default value is rsa_pkcs1_sha256,rsa_pkcs1_sha384,rsa_pkcs1_sha512. This setting is only applicable when SSLEnabledProtocols includes TLS 1.3.
TLS13SupportedGroups:   The supported groups for (EC)DHE key exchange.

This setting specifies a comma separated list of named groups used in TLS 1.3 for key exchange. This setting should only be modified if there is a specific reason to do so.

The default value is ecdhe_x25519,ecdhe_x448,ecdhe_secp256r1,ecdhe_secp384r1,ecdhe_secp521r1,ffdhe_2048,ffdhe_3072,ffdhe_4096,ffdhe_6144,ffdhe_8192

The values are ordered from most preferred to least preferred. The following values are supported:

  • "ecdhe_x25519" (default)
  • "ecdhe_x448" (default)
  • "ecdhe_secp256r1" (default)
  • "ecdhe_secp384r1" (default)
  • "ecdhe_secp521r1" (default)
  • "ffdhe_2048" (default)
  • "ffdhe_3072" (default)
  • "ffdhe_4096" (default)
  • "ffdhe_6144" (default)
  • "ffdhe_8192" (default)

General Config Settings

AbsoluteTimeout:   Determines whether timeouts are inactivity timeouts or absolute timeouts.

If AbsoluteTimeout is set to True, any method which does not complete within Timeout seconds will be aborted. By default, AbsoluteTimeout is False, and the timeout is an inactivity timeout.

LocalHost:   The name of the local host or user-assigned IP interface through which connections are initiated or accepted.

The LocalHost configuration contains the name of the local host as obtained by the Gethostname() system call, or if the user has assigned an IP address, the value of that address.

In multihomed hosts (machines with more than one IP interface) setting LocalHost to the value of an interface will make the task initiate connections (or accept in the case of server tasks) only through that interface.

If the task is connected, the LocalHost configuration shows the IP address of the interface through which the connection is made in internet dotted format (aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd). In most cases, this is the address of the local host, except for multihomed hosts (machines with more than one IP interface).

TcpNoDelay:   Whether or not to delay when sending packets.

When true, the socket will send all data that is ready to send at once. When false, the socket will send smaller buffered packets of data at small intervals. This is known as the Nagle algorithm.

By default, this config is set to false.

UseInternalSecurityAPI:   Whether or not to use the system security libraries or an internal implementation.

When set to False, the task will use the system security libraries by default to perform cryptographic functions where applicable. In this case, calls to unmanaged code will be made. In certain environments, this is not desirable. To use a completely managed security implementation, set this setting to True.

Setting this configuration setting to True tells the task to use the internal implementation instead of using the system security libraries.

On Windows, this setting is set to False by default. On Linux/macOS, this setting is set to True by default.

If using the .NET Standard Library, this setting will be True on all platforms. The .NET Standard library does not support using the system security libraries.

Note: This setting is static. The value set is applicable to all tasks used in the application.

When this value is set, the product's system dynamic link library (DLL) is no longer required as a reference, as all unmanaged code is stored in that file.
